On January 8, 2004, Lois suffered a dissecting aorta that ran the full length of her body. Thanks to a brilliant doctor in the emergency room, Dr. Glen Kane, Lois was not among the 70+% of the people that die immediately. At UCLA medical center, Lois was treated medically until June 18, when another brilliant doctor, Dr. Ramen Beygui operated to stop the aorta from getting worse. Lois survived an operation that kills 50% of those that need a heart-lung bypass operation. She has been fighting valiantly for her life ever since and has been in the hospitals off and on for another year with high blood pressure, blood clots and numerous spontaneous fratures of the spine, hips, and ribs. May God help her to survive for another year and a half and more.
