Dvorak's Largo (Going Home)

Going Home

No more to hear little footsteps on the kitchen floor,

No wagging tails to greet me, when I open up the door.

No paws soft touch, to let me know, I'm needed anymore.

Their eyes expressed, just what they had to say,

we understood each other in a very special way.

The look of tenderness, when down I had to lay,

their faithfulness, that kept my fears at bay.

However cross I seemed to be, they always understood

that I loved them, and come what may, I always would.

With a head upon my feet and a little body on my knee,

a soft paw lifted to my face, that look of such divine sweet grace,

I knew their love would always, always be.

They would know when the pain was bad,

and would wait for steady hands,

to know when I could face the day again.

Intelligent people say, "they don't know what you say",

but my sweet family understood in every single way.

Their faithful bond would never break my heart in anyway.

If only half the humans, had the sense to act,

in this very self same loving way,

what a better world we'd live in here today.

So I'll go on believing God's called my little family,

and they are waiting for the time when I go home.

When I walk in through the door,

they'll all run across the floor,

and a greeting will be such you've never seen.

And we'll all be fit and well and with happiness will dwell,

altogether as a family ever more.
